I was talking with someone on Mastodon the other day about standard notation-as-code allegory, and went off to google some pieces that weren’t in 12 tone equal temperament and found this and it’s just sublime.

That’s written using the octave divided into 31 equal tones. It takes a while for the ear to become accustomed but there’s a fantastic musicality to the composition and performance here. Really beautiful and… well, weird.

(I’d also being lying if I said I hadn’t googled Lumatone keyboards immediately afterward and was silently crushed by the $4K price tag. It’s going on the wishlist right after the Rhodes piano…)
